The redeclaration took place in a significant event in Lahti, Finland, on 29th November 2024, during a convention where more than 1,500 Biafrans from all around the world gathered to proclaim the restoration of Biafra's 1967 independence and officially adopted its new name 'The United States of Biafra'. The Biafran nation comprises of 40 confederating states.
The redeclaration follows a series of organised efforts, mainly by way of self-referendum carried out in the period 1st February – 28th November 2024, utilising both electronic and physical voting methods. This referendum engaged over 50 million participants reflecting a substantial commitment to self-determination among the Biafra people.
Biafra fulfils all the criteria with its: estimated population of over 80million people, over 29,848 square miles (77,310 km2) with terrestrial borders shared with Nigeria to the north and west, and with Ambazonia to the east and a coast on the Gulf of Guinea of the South Atlantic Ocean in the south, and a functioning government with all necessary departments including the Defence, as well as Human rights department.

The Constitution of the United States of Biafra came into effect on December 2, 2024, following the redeclaration of the Sovereign State of Biafra. It was compiled by a Constitution Drafting Committee established by the Prime Minister of Biafra, Simon Ekpa Njoku. This Constitution provides a concrete guideline for the structure and administration of the United States of Biafra. It is aspirational and indicative of the nation that Biafrans have set out to build.
