About The United States Of Biafra

A Vision for Sovereignty and Self-Determination

The United States of Biafra represents a bold vision for sovereignty, freedom, and self-determination. Our geographical territory encompasses multiple tribes and cultural groups united in forty states, forming a confederation built upon justice, equality, and the rule of law. The dream of Biafra is not one of revenge, but of renewal—a declaration that the future can be built upon justice, peace, and unity under the rising sun.

Pre-War Conditions and Causes

Following Nigeria's independence on 1 October 1960, deep structural inequalities and political fault-lines became more pronounced. The former Eastern Region, populated by the Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Ijaw, and other Biafran peoples, was an industrious and educated region whose citizens contributed significantly to the young federation.

In January 1966, a military coup led by young officers disrupted the First Republic. Although not ethnically motivated, the coup's composition was misinterpreted, leading to retaliatory violence.

By July 1966, a counter-coup erupted, followed by a wave of pogroms targeting Easterners living in Northern Nigeria. An estimated 8,000 – 30,000 civilians were killed, and more than one million displaced into the East.

The War and Its Legacy

On 6 July 1967, the Nigerian Federal Government launched a full-scale military offensive against the new state. What followed—the Nigerian-Biafran War—became one of Africa's most tragic conflicts. A land, sea, and air blockade imposed on Biafra led to catastrophic humanitarian conditions.

Despite overwhelming odds, the people of Biafra demonstrated extraordinary innovation and resilience. The Abagana Ambush of 31 March 1968 became a symbol of strategic brilliance.

Post-War Reintegration

Following the war, the Federal Government of Nigeria initiated a policy of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Reconciliation (the 3 Rs), designed to reintegrate Biafrans into the federation. However, the region's experience was one of continued marginalisation.

Properties were confiscated, currency exchanges left families destitute, and political exclusion remained entrenched. The legacy endures—visible in chronic under-investment in infrastructure, unequal representation, and cultural erasure.

A Lawful, Democratic Entity

This re-declaration symbolizes the rebirth of Biafra as a lawful, democratic entity. One that seeks recognition not through rebellion, but through principle, diplomacy, and the collective will of its people.

Key Aspirations of the United States of Biafra

The United States of Biafra is built around several key principles:

National Sovereignty and Self-Determination

The foremost aspiration of the United States of Biafra is the restoration and preservation of full national sovereignty — the right of the Biafran people to govern themselves, free from external domination or systemic oppression. This sovereignty is not merely political; it is spiritual, cultural, and economic. It represents the awakening of a nation long denied its rightful place among free peoples of the world. Biafra stands to assert its identity, defend its borders, and determine its destiny through lawful and peaceful means.

Unity in Diversity

Biafra is a federation of over forty states, encompassing the Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Ijaw, Ogoni, and many other nationalities bound by shared values of freedom, equality, and justice. Our unity is not forced — it is chosen. It is a unity born of shared suffering and shared vision. Every tribe, tongue, and community within Biafra shall have a voice in governance, representation in leadership, and equality before the law. In the United States of Biafra, no people shall be marginalized; no culture shall be erased.

Democratic Governance and Rule of Law

The United States of Biafra shall be governed by the will of its people. Our democracy shall be participatory, transparent, and accountable. Leadership shall be a sacred trust, not a privilege for exploitation. The rule of law shall reign supreme, guaranteeing human rights, press freedom, and justice for all citizens regardless of gender, creed, or ethnicity. We affirm that the authority of the government derives from the consent of the governed — a government of the people, by the people, and for the people of Biafra.

Economic Freedom and Shared Prosperity

Biafra's economy will be built upon self-reliance, innovation, and fairness. We seek to unlock the vast potential of our people — from agriculture and technology to maritime trade and creative industries. Our natural resources, including oil, gas, minerals, and fertile lands, shall be harnessed responsibly for the benefit of all, not the enrichment of a few. The Biafran economy shall be diversified, export-driven, and guided by principles of transparency and sustainability. No Biafran child shall go hungry; no Biafran worker shall be left behind.

Education, Science, and National Advancement

Knowledge is the bedrock of national development. The United States of Biafra shall invest heavily in education, science, and research to build a generation capable of competing and leading globally. From village schools to universities, every Biafran child shall have access to free, quality education rooted in ethics, innovation, and patriotism. We shall revive the spirit of the Biafran scientific ingenuity that thrived even during the war years — transforming adversity into innovation, and innovation into progress.

Peaceful Diplomacy and Global Partnership

Biafra's foreign policy shall be anchored in peace, justice, and mutual respect. We shall seek friendship with all nations and enmity with none. Our diplomacy shall promote African unity, global cooperation, and regional stability. Through lawful, transparent engagement with international bodies, we shall secure recognition, build trade partnerships, and contribute constructively to world peace and human progress. The new Biafra shall be a bridge — between Africa and the world; between history and the future.

Cultural Renaissance and Spiritual Renewal

The soul of Biafra lies in its culture — its languages, arts, music, and spirituality. We shall protect and promote our ancestral heritage, revive indigenous languages, and restore pride in who we are. Biafra will celebrate the resilience, creativity, and unity that define our people. From the rising sun flag to the sacred land of our ancestors, we honor those who sacrificed for our freedom and renew our pledge to preserve the identity they died defending.

Justice, Equity, and Human Dignity

At the heart of the Biafran vision lies a moral code — that every human life is sacred, and every citizen equal in worth. We shall build a society where justice is not bought, freedom is not negotiated, and dignity is not denied. Biafra shall be a refuge of fairness, where every citizen can live without fear, worship without persecution, and dream without limits.

The Biafran Dream

The United States of Biafra is not simply a political idea — it is the rebirth of a nation's soul. It is the fulfilment of generations who refused to surrender their humanity, even in the face of war and famine. It is a promise to the children of tomorrow that the sacrifices of their ancestors were not in vain.

Under the banner of the Rising Sun, we declare our commitment to build a peaceful, prosperous, and dignified Biafra — united in purpose, grounded in truth, and destined to shine among the free nations of the earth.
